Stool made of Fustic wood (see accession notes.) Roughly finished, heavy. Generally rectangular in shape, but fashioned to represent an animal. Corners of top are projecting 'handles', which project out from the top surface. In between each pair of these four projections, which may represent outstretched animal legs, are an animal head (at one end) and an animal 'tail' (at the other end). The seat is a shallow concavity and the whole object is supported by four rectangular legs. Evidences of ; pitch and red paint (?) on seat several gashes on underside of seat. Maximum length 22'-23', width of seat 11', height at 'tail' end 8 1/4'. Excavated from Pitch Lake. Brighton, Trinidad.
